Eagles Take Two at Alverno

Two five-inning wins over Alverno College on Sunday afternoon helped move the Benedictine University softball team to 3-1 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action.
 
THE FINAL – GAME ONE
Benedictine 8, Alverno 0
 
THE DETAILS
• After two scoreless innings Benedictine took a 2-0 lead
• Breanna Sobotka led off with a single and would score later on an Alverno error
• A sac fly from Shannon Fritsche ended the Eagles scoring
• In the fourth inning Holly Haberkorn walked followed by a Jenna Boyajian single
• Still no outs, Abbey Plutz singled and Sobotka drove in two runs
• Kelli Holstine drove in a run and Kassee Johnson tripled to tally another run
• Fritsche and Courtney Grasz also had RBI's in the Eagles eight-hit and six-run inning
• Haberkorn picked up her second shutout of the year

THE DETAILS
• Alverno got on the board in the bottom of the first after collecting three hits
• The Eagles responded in the third inning with two runs on an Emily Moore double, a Johnson single and a Fritsche triple
• Benedictine scored seven runs in the fourth inning off of five hits and two AC errors
• With two outs to start the inning, Angie Malsack and Moore singled
• Johnson walked to load the bases and Fritsche singled to drive in a run
• Haberkorn and Boyajian doubled to tally runs to make it 9-1
• In the fifth inning Brittany Clark and Kimberly Tegtmeier singled while Selena Kweder doubled to tally runs
• Alexandra Laphen tallied the final RBI single of the game
