Softball Rallies to Sweep Marian

The Benedictine University softball team overcame a 3-1 deficit in the ninth inning to sweep the Marian University Sabres in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Sports Complex.
 
THE FINAL – GAME ONE

THE DETAILS
• Shannon Fritsche started off a five-run first inning with a homerun to center field
• Courtney Grasz followed with a single and Angie Malsack drove in two runs to take a 5-0 lead
• Holly Haberkorn tallied the final run of the game in the third, a homer to left field, her fourth of the year
 
STAT LEADERS
Fritsche: 2-4, 1 run, 1 RBI
Malsack: 2-3, 1 run, 2 RBI
Haberkorn (16-3): 7.0 innings pitched, 6 hits, 4 strikeouts
 
THE FINAL – GAME TWO

THE DETAILS
• Malsack and Breanna Sobotka doubled in the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead
• Marian answered back in the top of the fifth, tying the game
• After four scoreless innings, Marian tallied two runs off of two hits in the ninth to take the lead
• Benedictine battled in the bottom of the frame, scoring three runs for the 4-3 win
• Sobotka singled and Kelli Holstine doubled to tally a run
• Selena Kweder forced a walk and Fritsche tied the game with an RBI single
• At the next at-bat, Grasz singled for the 4-3 win
