Softball Notches 25th Win, Sweeps Lakeland

The Benedictine University softball team picked up their 25th win of the year after a sweep of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opponent Lakeland University on Sunday afternoon.
 
THE FINAL – GAME ONE
Benedictine 6, Lakeland 1
 
THE DETAILS
• Kassee Johnson led off the inning with a single to right center
• In her first at bat of the game, Shannon Fritsche sent a homerun over the center field fence to give Benedictine the 1-0 lead
• In the third the Eagles used four hits to score three more runs
• Emily Moore singled through the left side followed by an Angie Malsack two-run double
• Breanna Sobotka also tallied an RBI in the inning
• Benedictine scored their final run of the game in the fourth with a Malsack RBI single
• Lakeland threatened in the seventh tallying two doubles for a run
 
STAT LEADERS
Courtney Grasz: 3-3, 2 runs
Malsack: 2-4, 1 run, 3 RBI
Sobotka: 3-3, 1 RBI
Holly Haberkorn (17-3): 7.0 innings pitched, 8 hits, 2 strikeouts
 
THE FINAL – GAME TWO
• The Muskies took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, scoring a run off of three hits
• The Eagles quickly tied it in the bottom of the frame after a Haberkorn RBI single
• In the third inning, RBI's from Haberkorn and Moore gave BenU a 3-1 lead
• After a scoreless fourth, Lakeland would tally two runs in the fifth and sixth to tie the game
• Benedictine rallied in the bottom of the seventh that started with a Holstine single
• Selena Kweder advanced the runner with a sacrifice bunt and Fritsche drove in the game-winning run
