Softball Sweeps Edgewood

The Benedictine University softball team took two five-inning games from Edgewood College on Saturday afternoon in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action.
 
THE FINAL – GAME ONE
Benedictine 11, Edgewood 0 (5 innings)
 
THE DETAILS
• Kassee Johnson and Shannon Fritsche led off the game with singles
• Courtney Grasz scored BenU's first run of the game at the next at bat
• Benedictine would take a 3-0 lead after RBI's from Holly Haberkorn and Jenna Boyajian
• In the second inning, Alexandra Laphen, Fritsche and Grasz all tallied singles for two more runs
• Abbey Plutz and Laphen doubled in the third inning to put BenU up 7-0
• Benedictine secured the victory in the fifth inning when they tallied four runs off of four hits and one Edgewood error

Johnson: 2-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI
Fritsche: 2-4, 2 runs
Grasz; 3-4, 1 run, 3 RBI
Laphen: 2-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI

THE FINAL – GAME TWO
Benedictine 12, Edgewood 2 (5 innings)
 
THE DETAILS
• The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Haberkorn RBI single that scored Johnson who doubled to lead off the inning
• In the second, Angie Malsack collected her first homer of the year and Laphen's RBI single gave BenU a 3-0 lead
• Edgewood tallied two runs off of three hits in the bottom of the frame, their only runs of the game
• Benedictine had a monster third inning with seven runs off of four hits and three EC errors
• The final two runs of the game were scored in the fourth to give BenU the 12-2 victory
