Eagles Open the Season With Sweep of Augustana

The Benedictine University men's volleyball team opened up the season at home for the first time in four years and defeated Augustana College in straight sets on Friday night.

• Benedictine took a commanding 7-1 lead in the first set after aces from Joe Lock and Nick Malak
• Dylan Shore set up Elijah Medlock for a kill that put the Eagles up by seven and they never looked back for the 25-15 win
• The Eagles hit .375 with just one attack error in the first set
• In set two, a Zach Loeding solo block gave BenU an early lead
• Augustana threatened late in the set, tallying two straight aces but it wasn't enough as Benedictine would go on to win 25-19
• The Eagles held Augustana to just nine kills and a .034 hitting percentage in the second set
• Benedictine saw themselves trailing for the first time the entire match to start the third set
• The Vikings took an 8-3 lead but Benedictine cut their deficit to one on a 4-0 run and back-to-back Kyle VanStedum and Medlock kills
• VanStedum tied the game with a solo block and a Malak kill gave BenU the lead
• A Markus Riemer ace sparked a 5-0 run for the Eagles that secured their 25-18 victory
• The Eagles tallied 10 kills and a .375 attack percentage in the third set
