Men's Hoops Holds Down Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, MI - Continuing a busy stretch, the Benedictine University men's basketball team recorded a non-conference victory in Michigan on Monday night.

THE DETAILS

Benedictine fell behind 4-0 but three-pointers from Michael Johnson and Kyle Graebner handed the team a 6-4 edge
• Most of the first half was played close with Benedictine owning the largest lead at five points, 28-23, on a three-point play from Bryan Jakobsze with 5:23 left
• Benedictine held a 33-32 lead at the break
• The second half opened with Benedictine embarking on a 6-0 run to open a 39-32 edge
• Following a free throw from Kalamazoo the run continued to 10-1 on layups from Johnson and Carl Singletary Jr. to open a double-digit lead at 43-33
• The lead reached 12 on a pair of occasions but Kalamazoo was able to pull within a single point twice, including with 5:33 left
• The defense was strong in the second half and a Kalamazoo three-point try to tie in the final minute missed
• Benedictine scored five points in the final 18 seconds to grab the victory
• The game featured seven ties and five lead changes

• Benedictine shot 44.4 percent from the field
• Kalamazoo held a 43-39 rebounding advantage
• Four players reached double figures led by 15 from Eric Grygo, who added eight rebounds
• Jakobsze and Johnson each posted 12 points while Kenny Bogus tallied 10 points with eight assists and six rebounds
