Women's Hoops Knocks Off Conference Champs

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University women's basketball team knocked off the NACC champion, handing Wisconsin Lutheran just their second conference defeat in a key decision on Tuesday night.

• Benedictine dictated the tempo of the contest from the outset
• The opening 10 minutes were close as the largest lead was four points by Benedictine on two occasions at 6-2 and 11-7
• Down 15-14, Julie Jurasits completed a three-point play to give Benedictine a 17-15 lead after one
• Benedictine would not trail again, limiting Wisconsin Lutheran to just two field goals in the second
• The points from Jurasits were part of a 15-0 run stretching into the second quarter that made the score 27-15 on a jumper from Allison Michalski at the 5:32 mark
• Venita Parsons netted the final five points of the half as Benedictine opened a 32-19 lead with the 15-4 quarter
• Wisconsin Lutheran came out following the break with six consecutive points to draw within 32-25
• Benedictine led by 14 in the final minute of the third and took a 43-31 edge into the fourth
• The visitors, who were nationally ranked two weeks ago and already wrapped up the conference title, fought to close within 53-46 with 3:34 left and had several chances to pull closer but Benedictine held strong defensively
• Parsons was a perfect 10-for-10 from the line in the final two minutes as Benedictine grabbed the win, leading for 38:49 of the game

• Benedictine limited Wisconsin Lutheran to a field goal percentage of just 32.7 that was below 30 percent for most of the game before a 50 percent fourth
• Benedictine scored 14 points off 14 turnovers from Wisconsin Lutheran
• Benedictine held a slight 37-35 edge on the glass and finished 20-24 from the line in the game
• Parsons paced Benedictine with 22 points and did not miss from the line, finishing a perfect 14-for-14, becoming just the eighth player in conference history to have a perfect day at the line with at least 12 attempts; Among the others are the sister of head coach Charlie Averkamp (Ashley) and Benedictine's Meghan Novak
• Michalski tacked on 13 points in the start while Madisyn Fischer contributed nine and Jurasits eight
• Georgia Alexakos reeled in nine rebounds
