Baseball Edges UW-La Crosse in Florida

AUBURNDALE, FL - The Benedictine University baseball team rallied to edge UW-La Crosse in Florida and improve to 1-1 on the spring trip.

• UW-La Crosse scored a single run in each of the first two innings as the visiting team to nab a 2-0 lead after leaving the bases loaded in the second
• Brandon Gipson reached on an error with one out in the bottom of the second
• The next batter, D.J. Dillon, homered to tie the game
• Benedictine took the lead for the first time in the fourth inning with a single run
• Jack Surin reached on an error and moved to third on a single from Nicholas Lee
• Gipson lifted a sacrifice fly to plate the go-ahead tally
• Two more runs scored in the seventh as the advantage extended to 5-2
• Dillon led off with a double and Brenden Norberg followed with a single
• Norberg stole second and Jonathan Hodo, hitting third in the order, singled home both
• UW-La Crosse scored twice in the eighth and had the tying run on base in the ninth but could not tie the game
• The victory ended a three-game streak for UW-La Crosse, who was receiving votes in the D3baseball.com Top 25

• James Wright allowed just one earned run in seven innings to improve to 2-0 on the year
• Wright did not walk a batter and struck out five
• Marty Maves worked the final two innings to preserve the win
• Dillon finished with a pair of extra-base hits to lead a nine-hit attack
• Dillon also scored twice and drove in two
