Softball Splits With North Park

The Benedictine University softball team opened up their 2018 home slate on Monday afternoon, splitting a nonconference doubleheader with North Park University.

• North Park tallied a run in the first after a homerun to left field
• The Eagles got on the board in the third inning after Courtney Grasz singled to score Angie Malsack and Kaitlyn Velazquez to take a 2-1 lead
• The lead didn't last long though when NPU took a 3-2 lead in the fourth, scoring two runs off of two hits
• Three more runs put the Vikings up in the 6-2 in the seventh and BenU could not recover in the bottom of the frame

• In the second, Abbey Plutz walked to lead off the inning followed by a single from Velazquez
• Emily Moore tallied an RBI late rin the inning and a Grasz double scored two more runs
• In the same inning, Jenna Boyajian homered to give BenU a 6-0 lead
• North Park cut their deficit with two runs in the third off of two hits and 1 error
• Scoring ended in the fourth when the Eagles tallied on a run off of two hits in the fourth for the 7-2 win
