Softball Sweeps Elmhurst

The Benedictine University softball team picked up their first sweep of the season, taking two from nonconference opponent Elmhurst College on Wednesday night at the Sports Complex.

• The Eagles tallied three runs off of three hits in the first inning
• After an Emily Moore single, Jenna Boyajian doubled to left field to score a run
• Elena Sakellaropoulos and Courtney Grasz also collected RBI's in the inning
• Elmhurst cut their deficit when they scored two runs off of three hits in the third
• Up 3-2, BenU scored another run in the fourth
• The Eagles secured their victory in the bottom of the fifth inning when Sakellaropoulos doubled, scoring Emily Chitwood who also doubled earlier in the inning
• Despite Elmhurst scoring one more run in the seventh, BenU won 6-3

• Sakellaropoulos got the scoring going for the Eagles in the second inning when she tallied her first homerun of the season, a shot to left field
• The BenU offense came alive after that, as they had a monster third inning where they tallied five runs off of five hits including another homer, this time a three-run dinger from Chitwood
• In the fourth inning, Alex Laphen led off with a single to right field and Moore scored a run with a single down the left field line
• Benedictine secured the 8-0 win in the fifth after Chitwood walked and Sakellaropoulos singled down the left field line
• Kaitlyn Velazquez drove in the game winning run after a single to center field
