Men's Volleyball Takes Down #6 Dominican,#10 MSJ

The #13 Benedictine University men's volleyball team came through to win matches from two other nationally ranked opponents on Friday night. The Eagles first defeated #6 Dominican University for the first time in program history before sweeping #10 Mount St. Joseph.

• A Nick Malak ace scored the first point of the set and gave BenU the momentum right away
• Dominican battled back later on in the set with a 4-0 run that would tie it at 19
• A solo block from Adriel Rivas gave BenU the lead and they never looked back, winning 25-20
• The Eagles tallied nine kills in the first set for a .207 attack percentage
• The Stars offense came alive in set two, tallying a .462 hitting percentage and also collected 3.5 blocks on defense
• The BenU offense struggled as they fell 25-18
• Benedictine trailed early in the third set but a 5-0 run off the serve of Elijah Medlock gave BenU the 12-11 lead
• Still leading, John Mathews scored back-to-back aces for the Eagles to give them a commanding 23-15 lead before a Kyle VanStedum and Medlock block secured the 25-17 victory for BenU
• The Eagles could not be stopped in set four, tallying 11 straight points after being tied at 13
• The Eagles recorded 11 kills and tallied four blocks in the 25-14 win

• The Eagles trailed early in set one but quickly tied it at nine
• Blocks from Lock and Lewis Stein gave the Eagles the lead and four straight points from Medlock secured the Eagles 25-17 win
• Benedictine recorded 10 kills and a .300 attack percentage and five blocks in the set
• Set two proved to be much of the same with BenU trailing early but rallying back to tie it up
• The Eagles offense stepped it up and collected 16 kills and holding MSJ to just 11 for the 25-21 win
• In set three, BenU trailed late, 21-18, but a Stein solo block and back-to-back Malak kills gave BenU a lead and they squeaked out a win on a kill from Rivas
• The win stopped a nine-game win streak for MSJ
