Benedictine Wins Battle of the Eagles

The Benedictine University softball team moved to 7-1 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action on Thursday afternoon with a sweep of Edgewood College.

GAME ONE
• Homeruns from Emily Moore and Jenna Boyajian in the first inning gave Benedictine a 3-0 lead
• The Eagles added another run in the bottom of the second when Angie Malsack tripled and scored on a wild pitch
• With the bases loaded in the third, Edgewood had a chance to score some runs but Becky Karlinski and the BenU defense was too much, forcing a fly out to center field
• Edgewood did get on the board however in the fourth
• Benedictine responded in the fifth after Moore tallied her second homer of the day to make it 5-1
• In the seventh with the bases loaded, Edgewood tallied two runs but it wasn't enough as BenU would hang on 5-3

GAME TWO
• Courtney Grasz got the scoring started for the Eagles in game two in the first inning with a single that scored Malsack
• Benedictine would tally four runs off of four hits and one EC error in the inning
• Edgewood made it 4-1 in the second, tallying a run off of one hit
• Benedictine had the bases loaded and Emily Chitwood tallied a two-run double
• Up 7-1 after the third, BenU added four more runs in the fourth off of two hits including a Grasz double
• In the fifth, Edgewood collected two runs but it wasn't enough as the Eagles would go on to win 11-3
