Softball Soars Over Rockford

Benedictine softball won their eighth in a row after sweeping Rockford University on Friday afternoon to move to 9-1 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action. The Eagles tallied a season high 22 runs and 20 hits in the second game of the doubleheader.

GAME ONE
• Benedictine quickly started scoring after tallying five runs off of five hits in the first inning
• Breanna Sobotka recorded an RBI single in the third, scoring Abbey Plutz who singled earlier inning
• Up 10-0 heading into the fifth, Rockford scored four runs off of five hits and one BenU error
• In the bottom of the frame BenU responded after Courtney Grasz and Jenna Boyajian tallied back-to-back doubles
• Emily Chitwood drove in the winning run as the Eagles went on to win 12-4

GAME TWO
• Once again the Eagles tallied five runs in the first inning after tallying three hits
• Benedictine extended their lead to 9-0 in the second after four hits from Grasz, Boyajian, Plutz and Sobotka
• Rockford cut their deficit after a two-run homer to left field in the third
• Benedictine had a huge fourth inning where they tallied 13 runs on 11 hits
• Chitwood led off the inning with a double to center field and Plutz followed with a single
• Malsack scored the first two runs of the inning with a double to right field
• The BenU offense continued including hits from Kimberly Tegtmeier, Brieann Cruz, Liz Jimenez and Katie Snyder
• Brittany Clark tallied her first homerun of the season in the bottom of the frame
• Rockford had two runners on base in the fifth but Emily Mendoza and the Eagles defense held off the Regents for the 22-2 win
