Softball Splits at Dominican

The Benedictine University softball team continued Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action on Monday afternoon with a doubleheader split at Dominican University.

• Benedictine tallied a monster first inning in game one, tallying four runs off of six hits
• Emily Moore led off with a single followed by an RBI triple from Courtney Grasz, who would score on a passed ball
• Emily Chitwood tripled to center and Elena Sakellaropoulos followed with an RBI double
• Kaitlyn Velazquez doubled and Alex Laphen ended the scoring with an RBI single to left field
• The BenU offense didn't stop there as they recorded five more runs in the second, including a three-run homerun for Sakellaropoulos to take a 10-0 lead
• In the fifth, BenU tallied one more run off of two hits from Angie Malsack and Velazquez for the 11-0 five-inning win
• Benedictine tallied 16 hits in the game

• It was the Stars who took the lead in game two, tallying two runs off of two hits in the second inning
• In the fourth, BenU responded with one run after a Laphen RBI single, scoring Velazquez who doubled earlier in the inning
• Benedictine took the 3-2 lead in the fifth after a Boyajian RBI double and a Sakellaropoulos sac fly
• The DU offense proved to be too tough in the seventh, tallying two runs off of three hits and one BenU error in the bottom of the frame for the 4-3 win
