Softball and Wheaton Split in Non Conference Action

The Benedictine University softball team split a nonconference doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The Eagles, who resumed game one that was suspended from Thursday, defeated Wheaton College in five innings 13-2 but fell to the Thunder 16-5 in game two.

GAME ONE: Benedictine 13, Wheaton 2

• In the second inning, which took place on Thursday afternoon, BenU took a 2-0 lead after RBI hits from Breanna Sobotka and Angie Malsack
• Benedictine tallied eight runs off of 8 hits and two Wheaton errors in the third inning to take a 10-0 lead
Courtney Grasz led off with a single to center
• With two outs, the Eagle offense rallied and had hits from Elena Sakellaropoulos, Sobotka, Malsack, Emily Moore, Emily Chitwood, Abbey Plutz and Jenna Boyajian
• The Eagles scored one more run in the fourth and two more in the fifth
• Wheaton threatened in the fifth with a two-run homer to center field but it wasn't enough as Benedictine would win 13-2
• The Eagles had 17 hits in the game

• Wheaton took an early 8-0 lead after the second inning
• Benedictine responded in the third tallying five runs of their own off of five hits including RBI's from Boyajian, Sakellaropoulos and Kaitlyn Velazquez
• The Thunder offense was too much to handle as they scored three more runs in the third and five more in the fourth for the five inning win
