CHICAGO, IL - The Benedictine University baseball team split a pair of seven-inning games in a non-conference doubleheader at Chicago on Saturday

• Playing games three and four of a 12-game stretch in eight days Benedictine jumped ahead early in the opener
• Jonathan Hodo led off the game with a single and promptly scored when the next batter, Michael Chaffin, tripled
• Chaffin scored to makes the lead 2-0 on a one-out infield single from Sam Kerr
• Chicago tied the game with single runs in the second and third against Benedictine starter Justin Sosa
• Chaffin scored the winning run in the fifth after leading off with a single, coming around on a passed ball
• Game two was all Chicago as the hosts scored in four different innings, grabbing a 3-0 lead with a run in the second and two in the third
• The game really broke open late with three in the fifth and six in the sixth

• Sosa worked 5.2 innings in the opener and allowed just two runs to pick up the win
• Marty Maves threw the final 1.1 innings to save his ninth of the season, which ranks among the best in the nation
• Chaffin led a 10-hit attack in the opener with three while Hodo and Kerr notched two apiece
• The bats were limited to only four hits in the second game, the second shutout loss of the year
• Four different individuals posted the hits
• Michael Santarelli suffered the loss, working three innings on the mound
• Three other pitchers saw time on the hill
