Malsack Homers, Eagles Split with Aurora

­­After dropping a heartbreaking game to Aurora University, the Benedictine University softball team tallied a 9-8 victory in game two after an Angie Malsack seventh inning three-run home run to force a split in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action.

GAME ONE
• Aurora took an early lead in the first inning when they tallied two runs off of two hits and two  walks
• The Eagles had a chance in the third but left two runners stranded
• Benedictine tied it up with an Emily Chitwood two-run homer to center field (her 6th), scoring Jenna Boyajian who singled earlier in the inning
• Benedictine left another runner on base in the third
• Tied 2-2, the Spartans collected two more runs in the seventh after a BenU error and two walks
• The Eagles offense could not muster a run in the bottom of the frame as AU took game one 4-2

GAME TWO
• It was Benedictine who took the early lead in game two, tallying three runs off of two hits in the first
• With the bases loaded, Boyajian walked in a run followed by an RBI single from Chitwood and another walk from Elena Sakellaropoulos for the 3-o lead
• Aurora responded with one run in the second
• Velazquez collected her second double of the game in the second followed by an RBI single from Courtney Grasz to make it 4-1
• Chitwood put BenU up 5-1 with an RBI single through the right side
• The Spartans had a huge fourth inning where they tallied seven runs off of seven hits and one BenU error to take an 8-5 lead
Breanna Sobotka tallied an RBI single in the fifth to make it 8-6
• The Eagles came from behind in the seventh when Angie Malsack homered to left field, scoring Emily Moore and Chitwood to take the 9-8 lead
• Benedictine's defense held the Spartans in the bottom of the frame for the win

Benedictine softball, now 24-12 overall and 14-4 in NACC action, play their final two games of the regular season this weekend. The Eagles travel to Marian University on Friday afternoon followed by a doubleheader at Lakeland University on Saturday.
