Softball Clinches NACC Tourney Slot

Despite letting Marian come from behind to win the first game, the Benedictine University softball team used three home runs in the third inning to defeat the Sabres 10-5 in game two of a crucial Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup. With the split, the Eagles secured their spot in the NACC Tournament.

GAME ONE
• Even though Marian scored a run in the first, Benedictine responded with five runs of their own in the second inning
Angie Malsack singled and advanced on the throw and Emily Chitwood advanced on a throwing error to tally the first run
Breanna Sobotka drove in a run with a double to left center
Emily Moore and Jenna Boyajian each had RBI singles to give BenU the 5-1 lead
• In the next inning, Moore collected her sixth homer of the season to put the Eagles up 6-1
• Marian had a three-run homer in the fourth and another in the fifth to take an 8-6 lead
• The Eagles tried to rally in the seventh and a Kaitlyn Velazquez single scored Malsack but it wasn't enough as Marian would go on to win 8-7

GAME TWO
• In the first, the Eagles tallied a run after a Moore single up the middle 
• Benedictine extended their lead in the third when, with two outs, Courtney Grasz singled to left field
• The Eagles then had three home runs - a two-run shot from Jenna Boyajian (her 7th), a solo homer from Chitwood (her 7th) and the final from Elena Sakellaropoulos (her 5th) to take a 6-0 lead
• Marian tallied a run off three hits in the third
• A Grasz sac fly, her second of the game, scored another run for BenU in the fourth
• The Sabres had a massive fourth inning, tallying four runs off of five hits 
• Leading 7-5, Benedictine collected one more run in the fifth after a Sobotka sac fly
• In the sixth, the Eagles secured their victory when they added two more runs after a Malsack double
