Softball Sweeps Lakeland in Final NACC Contest

After securing a spot in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament with a split at Marian on Friday night, Benedictine University tallied two wins over Lakeland University on Saturday afternoon. The wins pushed the Eagles into first place and even with several teams playing on Sunday, Benedictine will claim a share of the NACC regular season title.

GAME ONE
• The game was tied after the first inning with each team tallying a run
• Lakeland tok a 2-1 lead in the third
• The Eagles tied it up in the fourth after Kaitlyn Velazquez walked, stole second and was then driven in after an Abbey Plutz single
• Benedictine added to their lead in the fifth when Courtney Grasz scored Emily Moore who singled earlier in the inning
• The Eagles added two more runs in the sixth for the 5-2 win

GAME TWO
• Benedictine took a 3-0 lead in the first after RBI's from Grasz, Jenna Boyajian and Emily Chitwood
• Adding another two runs in the second, BenU took a 5-0 lead after a single to right center from Grasz who drove in the two runs
• Lakeland tallied a run in the fifth but the Eagles responded in the sixth with another run to make it 6-1
• Benedictine held on despite the Muskies tallying a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh for the 6-4 win
