Softball Wins Game One of NACC Tourney, Beats Aurora

The Benedictine University softball team, who claimed a share of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference regular season title, won their first game of the NACC Tournament as the #2 seed, beating #3 seeded Aurora 6-2.

• Benedictine gave a up a solo homerun in the first inning to put Aurora up 1-0
• The Eagles responded in the bottom of the frame when Jenna Boyajian homered to left field, scoring Angie Malsack who walked to lead off the inning
• Boyajian's homerun was the 32nd for the 2018 team, breaking the school record for most homeruns in a season, which was set last year with 31
• After a scoreless second, the Eagles added two more runs when Malsack tallied another walk followed by an Emily Moore single through the left side
• Courtney Grasz singled to left field and Boyajian picked up her third RBI of the game with a single to center
• Emily Chitwood picked up an RBI sac fly to give BenU a 4-1 lead
• In the fourth, Breanna Sobotka scored after singling to left center when Moore singled up the middle
• Sobotka scored Chitwood in the fifth with a double to center field to take a 6-1 advantage over Aurora
• The Spartans threatened in the seventh, scoring a run off of one hit but the BenU defense held on for the 6-2 win

Benedictine softball will continue play in the NACC Tournament and take on the #4 seed Concordia University Chicago at 3:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon in Milwaukee, WI at Alverno Field.
