2018 Benedictine Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Class

It is with great pleasure that Benedictine University announces the 2018 inductees into the Athletics Hall of Fame. This year's ceremony takes place on Friday, November 2.

WILLIAM GIANNINI
Football
Class of 1972

A four-year player from 1968-71, Giannini was an honorable mention NAIA All-American in 1971 while earning Team MVP honors following a record-setting season. An all-conference and all-district running back, Giannini held career records for carries, rushing yards, yards-per-carry and total offense.


MIKE GORMLEY
Men's Basketball/Baseball
Class of 1969

Gormley ranks sixth all-time in men's basketball program history in scoring with 1,576 points. A four-year letterwinner in basketball and three-year in baseball, Gormley captained two basketball teams and one baseball team and was the St. Procopius winner in 1968.

GARY MOORE
Coach
A Vietnam veteran, Moore directed the men's tennis program from 1973-78, helping transition the team from a club sport to a collegiate sport. Moore was named as the 1976 NAIA Coach of the Year and coached three individual national tournament qualifiers during his tenure. Moore's teams never lost a conference match.


MIKE SUGLICH
Baseball
Class of 1982

An ABC All-American in 1982, Suglich posted a year for the record books, batting .464. Suglich tallied hit and run totals during the season that also rank among the single season leaders. One of the hardest hitters to strikeout in program history, Suglich stole 28 bases in 1982.


AMY TRENCH
Softball
Class of 1996

Trench was selected last year but deferred induction to this fall.
Amy Trench was a two-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American in 1993 and 1994. She is tied for fourth in school history with 15 doubles in the 1995 season and was part of a team that holds the school record for winning percentage in 1994.


1976 MEN'S TENNIS TEAM
The first team in school history to qualify for a national collegiate tournament, the 1976 team finished 19-1 with the lone loss coming to Vanderbilt and ended the year 13th at the NAIA National Finals in Kansas City.
