Volleyball Splits in St. Louis

The Benedictine University women's volleyball team won their first match of the 2018 season, defeating Westminster in five sets. Taylor Dunwell and Kristina Billie each tallied career high nights in kills and digs. The Eagles then dropped their second match, 2-3, against Webster.
 
WESTMINSTER FINAL
Benedictine 3, Westminster 2 (20-25, 25-23, 25-12, 18-25, 16-14)
 
THE DETAILS
• Despite out-hitting Westminster in the first set with 14 kills, BenU dropped the first set 20-25
• In set two, the Eagles hit .316 with 15 kills and edged Westminster 25-23
• Both teams combined for just 12 kills in set three but BenU ran away with a 25-12 win
• Benedictine tried to close it out in set four, tallying 10 kills, but Westminster's offense was on fire as they tallied 14 kills for the 25-18 win
• In the final set, both teams battled and traded points all the way to the end, but a Taylor Dunwell kill gave BenU the 16-14 win
• Dunwell tallied a career high 31 kills while Kristina Billie had a career high 49 digs

THE DETAILS
• Up 2-1 in the fourth set, BenU had the chance to win it, but let Webster climb back to take the set 25-23
• Both teams traded points the entire fifth set with Webster coming out on top in the end, 16-14
• Four Eagles recorded double-digit digs
• Even though BenU out-hit Webster 68 kills – 59 kills, the Eagles only tallied one total block compared to Webster's seven blocks

Benedictine volleyball, now 1-1, will play their home opener on Wednesday, September 5, when they welcome Carroll College to the Rice Center for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
