Williams Surpasses 1,000 Career Points in Record Matching Win

RIVER FOREST, IL - D'Asia Williams became the eighth player in Benedictine University women's basketball history to surpass 1,000 career points as the team matched a program record with a 20th win at Concordia Chicago on Wednesday night.

•
Benedictine again came out strong, never trailing, and it was Williams who set the tone, scoring the first seven points of the contest
• Williams made it a double-digit lead with a three-pointer at the 7:14 mark of the opening quarter to surpass the milestone as Benedictine grabbed a 13-2 edge
• Alex Fanning put Benedictine ahead by 15 points at 19-4 on a fast break layup midway through the first and Benedictine held a 24-13 edge after one
• Concordia Chicago pulled within 10 points early in the second, but Allison Michalski opened a 13-0 run with a basket moments later
• Claire Gibler capped the run following a steal from MaKayli Vann with just over two minutes remaining in the half as Benedictine led 41-18 and took a 44-23 lead into the half
• Gibler completed a 9-0 run with a transition triple to give Benedictine a 56-28 lead with 3:17 to play in the third
• Michaela Kimbell deposited a three-pointer with 3:38 left to make the score 71-33 and Morgan Currie accounted for the final points with a basket just inside the final minute
• The 36 points marked the second fewest allowed in a game this season
• Williams becomes the first 1,000-point scorer under Charlie Averkamp, who is in his fourth season as the head coach
• Meghan Novak was the last player to cross 1,000 points, achieving the feat in the 2014-15 season
• The 2018-19 team becomes just the second in program history to reach 20 victories
• The 2006-07 squad finished 20-8 under Paul Nelson, now the Associate Director of Athletics, falling in the conference championship game in the first year of the NACC

STAT LEADERS
• 16 players saw action in the game with everyone recording at least three minutes of play
• Four players reached double figures as Benedictine shot 41.4 percent in the contest including 53 percent in the first half
• Benedictine held a 60-35 advantage on the glass
• Fanning led all players with 15 points, adding nine rebounds and a pair of blocked shots
• Michalski netted 14, also adding nine boards
• Gibler tallied 13 off the bench with Williams kicking in 11 points
• Hanna Piro dished out six assists while hauling in six rebounds

Benedictine (20-4, 16-3 NACC) will conclude the season on Saturday against Concordia Wisconsin.
