CONWAY, AR - The Benedictine University baseball team officially kicked off play on Sunday by splitting a pair of games at Hendrix College, beginning a challenging non-conference slate.

• The season got off to a difficult start as WashU scored four runs with two outs in the top of the first, three unearned, and added three more in the second to grab a 7-0 lead
• Benedictine scored the first run of the season in the bottom of the third
• Brenden Norberg tallied a one-out single and stole second base before crossing the plate on a single from

• Playing as the away team, WashU plated two more runs in the top of the sixth to go ahead 9-1
• Chase Patterson scored on a wild pitch in the last of the seventh before a three-spot in the eighth accounted for the final runs
• Tyler Woynerowski knocked home the first run with a fielder's choice to plate
Damen Castillo
• Jack Feeley logged an RBI single and
Jack Surin crossed on a passed ball to cap the scoring
STAT LEADERS
• Ryan Miller took the ball in the opener, working five innings and suffering the loss after allowing seven runs, just two of which were earned
• Miller issued four walks and struck out four
• Feeley was the only player to tally more than one hit in the opener, finishing 2-for-4 as Benedictine finished with six hits
BENEDICTINE 2, HENDRIX 1
• James Wright stole the show in the second contest, pitching Benedictine to the win and breaking a six-game win streak for the hosts, who were off to their best start in 102 years
• Benedictine gave Wright all the support he would need with two runs in the top of the third
• Feeley singled, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch
• Surin singled home the first run of the contest
• Woynerowski followed with a sacrifice fly to drive home

• Hendrix scored in the bottom of the fifth but left the tying run in scoring position
• Alexander Schram and
Marty Maves tallied strikeouts in the ninth, stranding the tying run in scoring position and collecting the first win of the season
STAT LEADERS
• Wright threw seven innings and allowed just two hits, walking two and striking out seven
• The first Hendrix hit did not come until there was one out in the fifth
• Schram worked 1.2 innings and struck out three in relief as the pitching staff tallied 11 strikeouts
• Norberg finished with three hits as Benedictine notched seven in the contest

Benedictine (1-1) will finish the venture to Arkansas with an 11:00 a.m. game against Hendrix on Monday.
