Benedictine University men's volleyball took down #2 Carthage College on Friday night in Kenosha, WI in four sets. This is the first time in program history that the Eagles have defeated the Red Men.
 
THE FINAL
#9 Benedictine 3, #2 Carthage 1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 25-20)
 
SET ONE
Benedictine came out strong instantly in the first set. Tied at four, a 
Chase Olson kill gave the Eagles a lead that they never relinquished for the 25-18 win. Benedictine hit .348 in the set with 12 kills, five from 
Nick Malak.
 
SET TWO
Back-to-back Carthage aces saw the Red Men take an 8-5 lead early in set two. The Eagles rallied back to tie it at 14 but another CC ace gave them enough momentum to take home the 25-21 win. The Red Men tallied 15 kills and hit .429 in the set.
 
SET THREE
In set three, BenU trailed 10-6 but a 
Joe Lock kill and a 
Chase Olson ace put BenU within one. A 
Kyle VanStedum kill tied the set at 13 and an 
Elijah Medlock kill gave the Eagles a lead they would hold on to for the rest of the set. Both teams hit under. 300 in the set with BenU tallying 12 kills.
 
SET FOUR
Tied at six, Medlock rattled off six straight points to give BenU a secure lead. Benedictine would go up by as many as eight points. Carthage tried to rally back, tallying four straight, but it wasn't enough as BenU went on to win 25-20. Benedictine totaled 14 kills in set four, seven from Medlock, while hitting .448 and holding Carthage to a .061 attack percentage.
 
THE STATS
As a team, Benedictine recorded 50 kills, hit .318, and tallied five aces, 53 digs and nine blocks. Carthage ended the match with 54 kills (.188), six aces, 14 service errors, 36 digs and five blocks.
