The Benedictine University men's volleyball team opened up Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play with a 3-1 win over Marian University on Saturday night. The win capped off a 2-0 weekend for the Eagles after defeating #2 Carthage College on Friday night.

Benedictine 3, Marian 1 (25-23, 25-27, 25-19, 25-23)

THE DETAILS
• Both teams traded points early on in set one until a Nick Malak kill gave Benedictine the lead and never looked back, winning 25-23
• The Eagles tallied 17 kills in the win
• Despite taking an early lead in set two (19-14), BenU allowed Marian to go on an 8-3 run to tie it at 22
• The MU offense came alive for the 27-25 win
• Benedictine trailed early but four straight points from Elijah Medlock tied it at seven
• The teams continued to trade points until back-to-back Malak kills gave the Eagles the lead that they never relinquished, winning 25-19
• Set four saw six ties, including a 22-22 draw
• Marian took a 23-22 lead but a John Davis kill and Medlock ace gave BenU match point
• An MU error gave Benedictine their first NACC win of the season
• As a team, Benedictine had 57 kills, hit .172, tallied 82 digs and 11 blocks
• Malak tallied a career high 21 digs
