Women's Hoops Storms Past Lakeland

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University women's basketball team led wire-to-wire in securing a key conference win over visiting Lakeland University on Saturday.

Benedictine made shots on the first three possessions of the game to build an early 6-0 edge
• MaKayli Vann connected on a three-pointer with three minutes remaining in the opening quarter to give Benedictine a 15-5 lead and Benedictine held a 17-9 edge after one
• Benedictine opened the second quarter with nine straight points to open a 26-19 lead on a pair of free throws from Alex Fanning
• Britney Pitzer extended the lead to 20 points at the halfway point of the second with a three-pointer
• Benedictine held a 38-24 halftime lead and scored the first five points of the third to begin to pull away
• Elisa Diorio finished a 15-0 run with a transition three-pointer to put Benedictine ahead by 31 points and the visitors pulled no closer than 20 points the rest of the way

STAT LEADERS

Five players reached double figures for Benedictine led by 17 from Fanning, who added 10 rebounds with two assists and a block
• D'Asia Williams finished with 15 points with Diorio adding 11 along with 10 from Allison Michalski and Pitzer
• Benedictine held Lakeland to just 28.6 percent shooting for the game and held a 48-45 edge on the glass
• Benedictine turned the ball over just seven times in reversing a loss from early in the season while scoring 32 points in the paint
