Softball Wins Season Opener

The Benedictine University softball team kicked off the 2019 season with a 17-7 win over Smith College on Friday afternoon in Clermont, FL.

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine tallied 17 hits for 17 runs in their season opening win
• A Taylor Skraba single followed by two stolen bases and a wild pitch gave Benedictine the 1-0 lead in the first inning
• That same inning, Megan Fast, Ashley Fisher and Kaitlyn Velazquez all tallied hits to take a 4-0 lead
• Fast earned the honor of collecting the first homer of the season for the Eagles, a two run shot in the second to take a 6-0 lead
• Smith College tallied four runs in the second and two more in the fourth to tie it at six
• The bats came alive for BenU in the fifth, tallying five runs, including a two-run homerun from Skraba
• Triples from Abbey Plutz, Skraba and Velazquez in the seventh secured the Eagles 17-7 victory
