Big Inning Powers Baseball in Conference Opener

MILWAUKEE, WI - The Benedictine University baseball team scored seven runs in the sixth inning to rally to a win over Wisconsin Lutheran in the conference opener.

THE DETAILS
•
Wisconsin Lutheran scored twice in the bottom of the first against Benedictine starter Ryan Miller
• Miller settled down and Benedictine was able to slice into the deficit with a single run in the fourth
• Nicholas Quick logged a one-out single and scored with two outs on a double from Michael Chaffin
• The sixth inning proved to be the difference in the contest as Benedictine sent 12 to the plate
• All seven runs scored with two outs
• The rally started with singles from Tyler Woynerowski and Chaffin, who moved into scoring position on the throw to third
• Cameron Falk singled home both to give Benedictine a 3-2 lead
• Kyle Mitter followed a single from Chase Patterson with an RBI single
• Brenden Norberg walked to load the bases following a pitching change
• Jack Feeley tacked on a two-run single and two more runs scored on an error
• Due to wind, snow flurries and cold the doubleheader was shortened to just one game
• The second game will be made up in Wisconsin at a later date
• The last six doubleheaders between the two schools had been played at Benedictine

STAT LEADERS
•
Benedictine totaled 11 hits in the win
• Chaffin, Woynerowski and Patterson each totaled a pair of hits as eight individuals posted hits and all nine in the lineup reached base
• Miller worked six innings and allowed just two runs to earn his second win, striking out five
• Ryan Litavecz tossed two scoreless with Cameron Paladines closing out the game

Benedictine (8-6, 1-0 NACC) hosts Lakeland in a doubleheader to open the home slate on Monday afternoon
