Baseball Opens Home Slate with Double Shutouts

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University baseball team officially opened the home portion of the schedule with a pair of shutouts over visiting Lakeland University on Monday.

GAME ONE DETAILS
•
Alexander Schram lowered his conference best ERA by spinning seven blank frames
• Schram set the tone in the first inning by striking out two of the three batters
• Lakeland did not record a hit until the fourth inning as the sophomore retired the first 11 batters of the contest
• Benedictine was able to jump on the board in the first inning, providing all the run support Schram would need
• Brenden Norberg led off the game with a bunt single, moved to second on an error and crossed the plate on a groundout following a wild pitch
• Two more runs scored in the third inning
• Kyle Mitter opened with a single, stole second and scored on a triple from Jack Feeley
• Feeley would score on a bases loaded walk issued to Michael Chaffin
• Miller scored the final run in the fourth, coming around on a single from Feeley

Schram's ERA now sits at 0.36 having allowed just one run in six appearances, three starts
• Schram allowed just three hits with a walk and eight strikeouts
• Ty Liaromatis spun the final two innings to complete the shutout, allowing a hit with a strikeout
• Feeley and Mitter each posted two hits with Feeley driving home a pair
• Nicholas Quick coaxed a pair of walks

GAME TWO DETAILS

Stephen Sewruk built on the momentum of Schram in the opener, going the distance in the second contest
• Damen Castillo opened the scoring in the second inning, whacking the first homer of the year deep to left
• Logan Shepard followed with a triple before scoring on a single from Mitter
• Feeley singled to open the third before swiping a pair of bags and scoring on a groundout to extend the lead to 3-0
• A single and two steals from Chaffin in the fifth led to an unearned run
• The floodgates opened in the sixth with an eight spot
• 13 players came to the plate in the inning
• Shepard and Feeley drove home two in the inning with Shepard collecting two run scoring hits
• Two runs scored on balks with Jack Surin and Jimmy McLaughlin also coming up with run-scoring singles

GAME TWO STAT LEADERS

Sewruk went the distance, striking out seven while allowing just three hits to go with a walk
• Sewruk owns a 1.80 ERA in four starts
• The offense bashed out 15 hits, matching a season high
• Castillo was a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk
• Shepard finished 3-for-4 as six individuals notched multi-hit performances
