THE DETAILS
• Most of the action in the first two sets saw both teams continually battling back and forth
• Dominican notched three in a row in the first set to go up 9-6 before Benedictine countered with four in a row fueled by kills from
John Davis and
Jacob Grygo along with an ace from
Joe Lock to lead 10-9
• Benedictine led 18-15 and 19-16 before Dominican ripped off six-of-seven to grab control and win the opening set
• The second set was much of the same
• Trailing 16-13, Benedictine came back to lead at 17-16 and four consecutive errors put Benedictine ahead 21-19
• Dominican came back to take the lead and after failing on the first set point, made good on the final two points to take the second
• The third was close early before Dominican pulled away in the middle
• Nick Malak made the score 9-9 but Dominican scored six of the next seven to lead 15-10 and went up 20-13 before securing the win
• The two programs have been battling at the top of the conference standings the past few seasons and will meet again in a conference clash at Dominican on March 25
• Benedictine hit under .100 for the match, with a best of .250 in the second
