Men's Volleyball Takes Down Another Top-10 Opponent

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University men's volleyball team capped a perfect week with a win over a top-10 opponent, Carthage College, at home.

THE DETAILS
•
Carthage led for nearly the entire first set, sprinting to a 5-1 lead
• Benedictine came back to tie the score at 9-9 and 14-14 on an ace from John Davis but Carthage was able to close out the first set, hitting .462
• The second set opened with Carthage in control, leading 5-1, 7-2 and 11-3 before Benedictine came storming back
• Five straight errors by Carthage allowed Benedictine to pull within 11-8
• Down 20-18, Davis opened a stretch of five in a row that enabled Benedictine to take the lead on consecutive aces from Joe Lock
• Davis was able to close a run of three in a row with an ace to end the set
• Benedictine hit a blistering .500 in the third set, posting six straight points to nab an early 7-2 lead on three consecutive aces from Davis
• Carthage came all the way back from down by seven to fight within 20-19 but three straight kills from Nick Malak, Chase Olson and Lock allowed Benedictine to pull away and close out the set
• Another strong hitting performance in the fourth powered Benedictine to the win, the second in a row after dropping the opening set
• Benedictine scored the first two points of the set on a kill from Davis and an ace from Lock and did not trail in the set
• A pair of kills from Davis helped Benedictine open an 18-13 advantage
• With four straight match points, Benedictine finally closed out the win on an ace from Olson after Carthage had pulled within 24-23
• Benedictine hit .341 for the match
• Benedictine also dropped the first set on Wednesday
• Benedictine owns a pair of wins over teams ranked in the top-10 this season
