WESTFIELD, IN - The Benedictine University baseball team opened the season with a pair of losses in Indiana.
GAME ONE: ANDERSON 7, BENEDICTINE 2
• Playing as the home team, Benedictine fell behind 4-0 in the second inning
• Benedictine loaded the bases in the third but could not score after
Jack Feeley singled,
Jonathan Hodo walked and
Blake Soria also coaxed a walk with one out
• Benedictine had threats in every inning before finally breaking through with two runs in the sixth
• Brenden Norberg drew a walk with one out and scored on an error
• Hodo added an RBI double to knock home

• Anderson extended the lead with a run in the seventh and two in the eighth
GAME ONE LEADERS
• Benedictine totaled seven hits with two coming from
Jack Surin
• Three of the hits were doubles
• James Wright started and worked two innings, allowing four runs, three earned while walking three and striking out two to take the loss
• Alexander Schram threw 4.2 innings in relief with a walk and six strikeouts
GAME TWO: WITTENBERG 5, BENEDICTINE 4
• Ryan Miller started the second game and worked out of a jam in the second inning with back-to-back strikeouts to leave the bases loaded
• Nic Presutti reached on an error to begin the third and stole second
• With two outs, Feeley logged an RBI single to put Benedictine ahead
• Wittenberg scored a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the inning to grab the lead
• Benedictine tied the game in the top of the sixth with Mitter logging an infield single to start the frame and then swiping second with one away
• Surin evened the score with a fielder's choice
• Wittenberg scored again in the bottom of the sixth to lead 3-2
• Back-to-back doubles from Mitter and Feeley tied the game in the eighth but Benedictine stranded a pair on base
• Benedictine was able to take the lead in the ninth with Soria and Presutti singling to start the rally
• Mitter singled home Presutti with the go-ahead tally
• Witenberg scored twice in the bottom of the inning to steal the win
• Both runs scored with two outs
GAME TWO LEADERS
• Miller struck out six in four innings in a no-decision
• Simon Herold and
Ryan Litavecz both tossed two innings
• Ty Liaromatis struck out three in the ninth but was saddled with the loss as a wild pitch on a third strike kept the inning alive
• The pitching staff struck out 14 in the second game and nine in the first contest
• The bats finished with nine hits in the nightcap, led by three from Mitter and two each from Feeley and Presutti
