Women's Basketball Pushes #3 Trine

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University women's basketball consistently battled and led after three quarters, but dropped a hard fought battle with #3 Trine pulling away in the fourth quarter at home on Wednesday.

THE DETAILS
•
Trine came out strong to open the game, scoring the first eight points
• Benedictine did not score until the 4:29 mark of the first on a pair of Alex Fanning free throws
• Down 12-2, Benedictine closed with a 6-0 run as three different players scored to cut the deficit to 12-8 after the first
• Brilan McCory tied the game at 16 with a layup on a fastbreak with 5:43 left in the half and Claire Gibler recorded a second chance basket to put Benedictine ahead for the first time at 18-16
• The visitors scored the next six points and led 26-22 at halftime
• Benedictine opened with a big third quarter run, scoring six straight to take a 28-26 lead on a jumper from Gibler with 7:14 remaining in the third
• Benedictine notched six straight to move ahead on a three-point play from Fanning with 42 seconds left in the quarter but Trine held a 38-37 lead going into the final 10 minutes
• McCory put Benedictine ahead by one midway through the fourth but Trine scored 12 in a row to pull away
• The game featured eight ties and eight lead changes
• Trine was the third ranked opponent Benedictine has faced this year (#11 Wheaton, #18 UW-Whitewater)
