MILWAUKEE, WI - Jack Surin was named as the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference South Division Position Player of the Week.

Surin batted .571 in a 3-1 week for Benedictine. The senior catcher drove home six and posted four extra-base hits including a game-tying homer against Lakeland. The Plainfield, Ill. native logged three multi-hit performances.

Benedictine (3-4) hosts Marian in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (naccsports.org) --- Benedictine University's Jack Surin (Plainfield, Ill.), Illinois Institute of Technology's Austin Richardson (Plainfield, Ill.), Lakeland University's Mason Pechy (Diamond Bar, Calif.), and Marian University's Josh Gates (Santee, Calif.) have been named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of March 15-21, 2021. The honorees were selected by the league's athletics communications professionals.

NACC Pitcher of the Week
North Division ~ Mason Pechy, Lakeland
Pechy, a senior righty, secured a win over Benedictine by allowing just one run across seven innings of work, scattering two hits and three walks while striking out nine. He now averages 11.57 strikeouts per nine innings and holds a 1.29 earned-run average - both good for fifth among NACC pitchers.

South Division ~ Austin Richardson, Illinois Tech
Richardson, a sophomore left-hander, picked up his first collegiate victory in the Scarlet Hawks' 5-1 win over Wisconsin Lutheran last Saturday. He allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out 15 over seven innings.

NACC Position Player of the Week
North Division ~ Josh Gates, Marian
Gates, a junior outfielder, went 7-for-17 (.412) at the plate with a .706 slugging percentage over four games last week. He went 3-for-6 to open a doubleheader at Rockford on Sunday, driving in three runs with three runs scored and a home run. Gates then closed out the twin-bill against the Regents by going 2-for-3 with four RBIs and three more runs scored. All told, he hit .555 (5-for-9) with seven RBIs and six runs scored against Rockford.

South Division ~ Jack Surin, Benedictine
Surin, a senior catcher/infielder, hit .571 (8-of-14) as Benedictine went 3-1 last week. He drove in six runs while logging four extra-base hits, two walks, six runs scored, and a stolen base. Three of the four games were multiple-hit games for Surin. In the final game of the weekend - a 14-4 win over Lakeland - he homered, doubled, drove in a pair, and scored three times in a three-hit game against the Muskies.
