Baseball Swings Past Marian

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University baseball team jumped over the .500 mark with a non-conference sweep of visiting Marian.

THE DETAILS - GM 1
•
Benedictine set the tone for the day in the first inning of the opener
• Robbie Dudzinski tossed a perfect top of the inning and Benedictine took the lead just four batters into the bottom of the inning
• Nic Presutti doubled and moved to third on a Jack Surin single
• Kevin Bushnell handed Benedictine the lead with an RBI single to plate Presutti
• Benedictine built the lead to 3-0 with a pair of two-out runs in the third
• Surin logged a double and scored on a Bushnell single
• Bushnell came in to score on the back end of a steal attempt at second
• Both teams scored in the sixth inning with Kyle Mitter knocking home the Benedictine tally on a safety squeeze
• The bullpen closed the door to hold off any potential rally

STAT LEADERS - GM 1
• Dudzinski threw 6.2 innings to improve to 2-0 on the year, walking three and striking out seven
• Simon Herold threw the final 2.1 innings to earn the save, striking out two
• Benedictine finished with 12 hits in the opener with the 3-4-5 hitters combining for eight hits
• Bushnell and Damen Castillo each tallied three hits while Surin and Jack Feeley notched two apiece

THE DETAILS - GM 2

Feeley homered on the first pitch of the second game as Benedictine moved in front again early
• The team would go on to hit four homers in the game
• Bushnell lifted a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-0
• Marian would lead for the only time on the day by scoring four runs in the third
• Benedictine responded with four in the bottom of the inning and did not trail again
• Bushnell followed a single by Surin with a two-run homer to left-center, tying the score
• Mitter coaxed a two-out walk and scored on the second homer of the inning, a two-run shot to left by Cameron Falk
• The Benedictine onslaught continued with four in the fourth and three in the fifth to lead 13-4
• Castillo posted a two-run double and Mitter a two-run single in the fourth
• Presutti, Surin and Bushnell knocked home runs in the fifth
• Marian scored four unanswered to pull within 13-8
• Alex Cameron belted a pinch-hit homer in the seventh and Jeremy Davis recorded a bunt single as Benedictine led 15-8 and Feeley added a sacrifice fly in the eighth to finish the scoring
• Marian scored a pair of unearned runs in the ninth to account for the final

Feeley tripled in the fifth to tie the program's all-time mark for three-baggers
• Benedictine amassed 19 hits in the second game
• Benedictine received hits from 11 different players
• Surin finished with three hits and scored four times
• Bushnell knocked home four runs
• Six players recorded more than one hit as Surin, Falk, Feeley, Bushnell, Castillo and Mitter all recorded multi-hit performances
• On the mound Justin Sosa started and worked into the third
• Ty Liaromatis earned the win by working three innings in relief
• Ryan Litavecz threw the final 3.1 innings to earn the save
