Baseball Splits at Illinois Tech

CHICAGO, IL - The Benedictine University baseball team saw a 17-game win streak end in the opener but battled back to split with Illinois Tech on the road.

Benedictine 18, Illinois Tech 6 - Gm 2 (7 Innings)

THE DETAILS
- Illinois Tech built a big lead early in the opener and did not look back, scoring multiple runs in the first four innings to lead 10-1 after four innings
- Damen Castillo homered in the sixth before four more runs from Illinois Tech in the bottom of the inning
- Anthony Lenza and Jack Surin drove home runs in the seventh to account for the final
- The second contest saw Benedictine build the early big lead, scoring multiple runs in each of the first four innings to lead 12-0
- Surin and Castillo homered back-to-back in the first as Benedictine used the longball to set the tone
- Castillo connected on a grand slam in the second
- Kevin Bushnell hit a two-run homer in the fourth while Brendan Norberg went deep in the third and sixth and Surin hit another homer in the sixth

STAT LEADERS
- Lenza and Castillo both posted two hits in the opener as Benedictine was limited to six
- Ryan Renken suffered the loss on the mound, his first of the year
- Benedictine hit seven homers and stole four bases in the second contest, finishing with 14 hits
- Castillo notched four hits while driving home six
- Surin drove home five and scored four runs
- Norberg finished with four RBIs
- Justin Sosa worked 4.2 innings on the mound, striking out six to earn the win
