MILWAUKEE, WI - The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference released the awards for the 2021 men's lacrosse season and following a record season, the Benedictine University men's lacrosse team was well represented.
Colin Domek was selected as the NACC Offensive Player of the Year and head coach
Chris Button was selected as the NACC Coach of the Year.
Domek scored a team leading 45 goals over 13 games. The Naperville, Ill. native led the conference in goals despite missing a pair of contests. Domek also sat fifth in assists with 24, second on the team, and second in the conference in scoring with 69 points. Domek won three conference offensive weekly awards during the season. During conference contests, Domek scored 15 goals and added five assists over four games played. Domek scored a goal in all but one of his 13 contests and logged a 12-point game against Illinois Tech with six goals and six assists, one of the highest scoring games in program history.
Button directed Benedictine to a record setting season. The third-year head coach set single season records for wins and winning streak while directing the team to both the regular season and tournament championship, both firsts for the program. Benedictine will also play in the NCAA Tournament for the first time. During the campaign Button also became the program's all-time leader in wins during a year which has seen many records fall. Benedictine defeated Aurora for the first time in program history and added another win over the perennial conference power in the tournament championship. Benedictine led the conference in goals per game at 14.0.
Besides the award winners, the all-conference teams were filled with Benedictine players.
Daniel Misheck,
Thomas Tillett and
Mateo Salceda were all First Team All-NACC selections. Misheck anchored a defense that ranked second in the conference in goals against. The senior became the first player named to the national team of the week and 54 groundballs while causing 20 turnovers. Tillett set a program record for assists in a win over Edgewood and led the conference by a large margin with 40 on the year. Salceda won 203 faceoffs and picked up 119 groundballs, ranking second in the conference in both categories.
Scott Ransom,
Nic Perkins and
Trey Mobley received second team honors. Perkins ranked second on the team and fourth in the conference with 42 goals. Ransom scored 28 goals, third on the team, and added 16 assists. Mobley started eight games on defense and caused 12 turnovers while picking up 41 groundballs.
Will Corrigan,
Anthony Leahy and
Kevin Marcano were all named honorable mention all-conference. Corrigan and Marcano were part of the defense while Leahy totaled 37 points in the midfield.
Benedictine (13-2) will find out their NCAA Tournament opponent and destination on Sunday night.
