Box Score MEQUON, WI - The Benedictine University football team opened conference play on the road at Concordia Wisconsin.
After Benedictine was unable to score on the opening drive of the game, Concordia Wisconsin marched 74 yards to open a 7-0 lead. The Falcons capped a 10-play drive with a 26-yard touchdown pass to lead with 8:00 remaining in the opening quarter.
Benedictine responded with a methodical drive, using 15 plays to take up nearly the entire remaining time in the quarter. Nearly alternating runs and passes, the longest play of the drive was a 12-yard rush from
Tyler Jarnagin.
Nathan Rillo plunged in from one-yard out to even the score after a PAT with just 10 seconds left in the first. The hosts drove down to answer, booting a 40-yard field goal to lead 10-7 at the 11:14 mark of the second. Following a three-and-out, Concordia Wisconsin kicked another field goal, this time a 36-yarder, to lead 13-7 with just over five minutes left in the half.
Benedictine countered again with another long drive, storming down the field in 12 plays to lead just before halftime. The longest play on the drive was a 14-yard rush from
Gregory Hoard. Hoard dove in from two yards out to make the score 14-13.
Concordia Wisconsin opened a 20-14 lead midway through the third quarter. Benedictine grinded out the clock again to take the lead, using a 15-play drive that spanned 70 yards. The longest play of the drive was a 22-yard catch by
Hakeem Hartford. A roughing the passer penalty also aided the drive. Rillo recorded a two-yard score for his second touchdown of the game to make the score 21-20 with 14:21 to go.
Tanner Mateus booted a 19-yard field goal to seal the win with :48 seconds left before a last second interception made the final 31-20.
Benedictine held the ball for over 35 minutes in the game and tallied 346 yards of offense with a balance of 187 rushing and 159 passing. Jarnagin completed 20-of-29 passes in an efficient performance. Hartford ran for 78 yards and Hoard added 64.
Deandre Holliday caught nine passes while
Calin Gurau adding five.
Ahmad Washington led the defense with 10 tackles.
Benedictine will welcome Eureka for the homecoming game next Saturday.
