Cullen Cosme converted on a pair of layups in the final minute to tie the game, but two free throws with four second left lifted Marian to a 75-73 win on Saturday. Marian received 12 first place votes after winning the conference tournament last season and was second in the preseason poll.
Andrew Stokes continued the strong start to his career with a double-double, scoring 17 points off the bench and adding 10 rebounds. The game featured seven ties and 15 lead changes. Benedictine posted 36 points in the paint and 30 came from bench players. Cosme and
Marvin Agwomoh each added 13 points. Benedictine finished the game shooting 44.1 percent and tallied 13-of-16 free throws.
