DAVENPORT, FL - The Benedictine University baseball team opened a daunting schedule in Florida by dropping a close game to 25th ranked Washington & Jefferson.

• Washington & Jefferson opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, hitting back-to-back solo homers
• The lead reached 3-0 with another run in the second
• Benedictine plated a pair of runs in the fourth to pull within 3-2
• Kevin Bushnell recorded a one-out double
• Damen Castillo followed by sending a 2-1 pitch over the wall in left-center, his second of the year
• W&J tacked on an insurance run in the fifth
• Benedictine stranded the tying runs on base in the sixth and eighth, failing to capitalize on a bases loaded one-out situation in the eighth
• Benedictine had the tying run at the plate in the seventh and ninth
STAT LEADERS
• Stephen Sewruk made the start, allowing three earned runs in five innings with a walk and five strikeouts but suffered his second loss of the year
• Jackson Bahn struck out four in two scoreless innings and
Ty Liaromatis spun a scoreless eighth
• The pitching staff allowed just five hits while striking out 10; None of the hits came in the final three frames
