Softball Drops Pair of Close Contests

CLERMONT, FL - The Benedictine University softball team continued the venture to Florida, dropping a pair of close contests.

Luther 5, Benedictine 4 - 8 Innings
Allegheny 9, Benedictine 7

LUTHER DETAILS
•
Luther has been a perennial NCAA Regional team
• Benedictine opened a 1-0 lead in the first inning
• Megan Fast singled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Colleen Schmit
• Luther plated four runs in the fourth to take the lead
• Benedictine was able to tie the game with three runs in the fifth
• Taylor Skraba, Fast and Ashley Fisher drove home runs
• Headed to extras the international rule went into place putting a runner on second to start the inning
• Benedictine did not score and Luther won the game on a sacrifice fly, the second walk-off against Benedictine in the trip

LUTHER LEADERS

Alexandra Loizon pitched the entire contest, suffering her first loss of the year after striking out six and allowing three earned runs
• Benedictine finished with seven hits, three of which came from Fast

ALLEGHENY DETAILS
•
Benedictine built an early big lead but Allegheny rallied late to grab the win
• Alyssa Gill opened the scoring with a first inning sacrifice fly
• Asia Robinette homered in the second
• Holding on to a 2-1 lead, Benedictine scored four runs in the third
• Two runs scored on a wild pitch and one on a passed ball while the fourth came on a Robinette sacrifice fly
• Allegheny pulled within a run on a grand slam in the fifth before Benedictine added an unearned run in the bottom of the inning to lead 7-5
• Allegheny scored four unearned runs in the sixth to overtake Benedictine and grab the win

ALLEGHENY LEADERS
•
Benedictine managed just four hits in the contest coming from four different individuals
• Robinette drove home a pair of runs
• Fast worked six innings in the circle and Leah Navarro suffered the loss despite not allowing an earned run

Benedictine (5-4) concludes the trip on Thursday against Colby
