The Benedictine University men's basketball team trailed just once in the opening minute before an 11-0 run set the tone for a 107-82 victory over Lake Forest in the home opener.
Benedictine shot 63.9 percent in the first half, racing to a 59-46 lead at the break and finished the game shooting 58.2 percent while holding a 48-34 advantage on the glass.
Trevor Montiel and
Drew Stokes both scored over 20 points with Montiel notching 23 with seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Montiel finished 7-of-10 from the field. Stokes added 20 to go with nine rebounds, three assists and a block.
Cullen Cosme was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free thrown line and finished with 15 points as Benedictine shot 90 percent from the foul line (18-20).
Brandon McCoy came off the bench to add 16 with
Nick Howard notching a career best 14 and eight rebounds.
Benedictine (2-0) hosts the University of Dubuque on Tuesday night to conclude the frenzy of three games in six days to open the year.
