Behind 42 points in the second half the Benedictine University men's basketball team was able to streak to a third consecutive win, downing visiting Rockford 76-69 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action on Saturday.
Benedictine got off to a hot start, opening a 6-0 lead by making their first three attempts from the field. The lead reached 10-2 just over three minutes into the contest but Rockford came storming back, setting the stage for the rest of the contest. The visitors led 39-34 at the half. Benedictine opened the second half on a 9-2 run to take the lead at 43-41 and trailed only briefly the rest of the way.
Benedictine shot 53 percent in the second half and finished at an even 50 percent for the game. Both teams grabbed 33 rebounds. The contest featured seven ties and six lead changes.
Tanner Resch paced Benedictine with 17 points.
Drew Stokes added 13 with nine rebounds while
Trevor Montiel notched 12 and
Brandon McCoy kicked in 11 off the bench in a balanced effort that saw four players reach double figures.
Benedictine (6-2, 3-1 NACC) heads to Florida next week for a pair of non-conference games at the Cruizin' Classic against foes with a combined record of 18-1, the first of which is Saint Vincent on December 20 at 3pm Eastern.
