Box Score Unbeaten Saint Vincent beat the buzzer twice to knock off the Benedictine University men's basketball team 94-92 in overtime at the Cruizin' Classic in Florida.
Benedictine led by seven points with 3:47 to play and held an 82-77 edge with just 33 seconds left but Saint Vincent, leaders of the President's Athletic Conference, rallied to force overtime by hitting a jumper with just two seconds left. Benedictine led by four in the first minute of overtime but managed just five points the rest of the way.
Tanner Resch splashed home a game-tying three with just over three seconds left but Saint Vincent beat the buzzer by going the length of the floor to remain unbeaten.
The game featured 11 ties and 14 lead changes. Benedictine held a 44-35 advantage on the glass. The contest was the sixth decided by under 10 points among the eight games this year. Benedictine shot 52 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-points range in the defeat but was just 14-of-26 from the free throw line.
Trevor Montiel paced Benedictine with 25 points, a season high one off his career best. Montiel also added a team high eight rebounds. Resch tallied 17 points while
Nick Howard and
Drew Stokes both put in 15 and
Brandon McCoy notched 10. The starts accounted for all but 12 points in the game.Â
Benedictine (6-3) faces #20 Widener University in the Florida finale on Thursday.
