Taking advantage of the week following finals, the Benedictine University women's basketball team trekked out west to California. The team opened the journey with a 75-58 loss at Chapman University.
Chapman took the lead midway through the opening quarter and did not trail the remainder of the contest although Benedictine played even with the hosts in the second and third. Benedictine shot 50 percent in the second quarter and 72 percent in the third, finishing the game at 46 percent. The team recorded 28 points in the paint and 17 off turnovers.
Sophia Hardy led the scoring with 14 points, a career high, finishing 7-of-11 from the field. Hardy also reeled in six rebounds. Chapman held a slight 36-34 edge on the glass.
Autumn Rucker finished with 10 points off the bench.
Benedictine (1-8) plays at Whittier on Wednesday afternoon.
