In a game that felt like an NCAA Regional the Benedictine University baseball team rode pitching and defense to a 2-0 upset win over #5 Rowan in Florida under the lights on Saturday.
Jackson Bahn threw five shutout innings, allowing just three hits with five walks and six strikeouts.
Steven Salvino singled to begin the bottom of the fifth, moved to second on a wild pitch, third on a balk and crossed the plate with the first run of the game on another wild pitch.
Nick Shelton entered in the sixth and threw four scoreless innings to earn the save but the key play came in the top of the eighth.
Chase Hanselman threw out the potential tying run at the plate to end the inning. Rowan left 10 on base as Benedictine continually made the big pitch when needed. An insurance run crossed in the bottom of the eighth on an infield single from
Logan Gregorio. Shelton induced a double play to end the game, Benedictine turned two in the contest. Rowan played in the super regional last year.
