The Benedictine University softball team opened the home schedule by splitting a doubleheader with North Park in the first games since returning from Florida.
Colleen Schmit opened the scoring in the first game, recording a two-run double with two outs as Benedictine nearly batted around. A grand slam allowed North Park to take the lead in the fifth and the visitors added four more in the sixth to pull away. Schmit finished with two hits as Benedictine managed just four in the opener.
Alexandra Loizon worked five innings and suffered the defeat in the circle.
Ashley Fisher opened the scoring in the chilly second game with a solo homer leading off the fourth. Four more runs would score in the inning on RBI singles from
Caroline Caesar,
Becky Roncone and
Taylor Skraba.
Neena Franklin added a sacrifice bunt to score a run. The game ended in the bottom of the sixth with three more runs. Errors led to two runs before Fisher singled home the game-ender with one out.
Jasmine Lozano carried a no-hitter into the sixth, finishing with a one-hit shutout. Fisher finished with three hits and two RBIs while Caesar, Skraba and Lozano all finished with a pair.
