The Benedictine University softball team opened conference play by sweeping a wild doubleheader from Marian, winning 10-2 and 11-10 in 11 innings.
Benedictine scored in each of the first three innings in the opener to grab an early lead, plating two in the first and four in both the second and third.
Taylor Skraba drove home four runs and hit a two-run homer in the third to become the program's all-time leader in longballs. Skraba finished with three hits in the win with
Neena Franklin posting two.
Alexandra Loizon earned the win in the circle with eight strikeouts in five innings.
The second game saw Marian put nine runs on the board in the top of the first inning before struggling to do much else. Benedictine scored four of their own in the bottom of the first as Skraba led off the game with a homer. Five runs in the bottom of the second tied the game and each team scored in the third before the offense fell silent.
Madye Greenwood broke through with the game-winning single in the bottom of the 11th with two outs. Greenwood finished with three hits and three RBIs.
Jasmine Lozano tallied four hits.
Bella Lodico stole the show with 10.1 innings of relief, striking out eight and allowing just one run to earn the victory.
