The Benedictine University baseball team split a pair of totally different home contests with MSOE on Monday. The teams were picked just one point apart in the preseason NACC poll. Benedictine dropped the open 3-2 but won the second contest 12-10.
Jackson Bahn controlled the first game. Bahn tossed seven shutout innings and allowed just three hits with three walks while striking out 11. Benedictine staked Bahn a 2-0 lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth.
Andrew Tenison singled home a run in the fourth and
Logan Gregorio added an RBI single in the fifth. The lead held until MSOE scored three runs in the ninth to steal the win. Gregorio finished with two hits as Benedictine totaled seven. MSOE had only three hits entering the ninth but posted three in the frame.
The second contest was quite a different contest with both teams swinging the bats early. MSOE plated a run in the first inning before
Alex Cameron hit a three-run homer in the second. MSOE responded with three in the third before Benedictine took the lead again with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Sam Malinas singled home a pair in the inning. Benedictine extended the lead to 9-4 with three more in the fifth. MSOE came back to make the contest close late but Benedictine was able to survive and split. Benedictine finished with 15 hits in the second contest.
Peter Turelli finished with four hits while Cameron drove home four.
Brennan Fisher, Tenison,
Ryan Doubek, Cameron and Mallinas all totaled two hits. Four pitchers combined on the win.
Stephen Sewruk tossed an inning in his return and
John Creviston followed with six frames.
